Recently, I found myself reevaluating what it means to be a storyteller. I have done it in forms that I have always been in touch with but did not value enough. Drawing and writing have always been with me, but exploring a new medium, oil painting, has made me discover a level of patience I did not know I possessed.

The painting below is a work in progress. It is of my late mother holding my daughter as an infant. Behind them is the life-sized wing of the wandering albatross, a bird that can be ocean-bound for a full year without making landfall. In the background is an aerial view of what may appear like the ocean but in actuality is the mountainous topography of the two small towns where my parents were born, north and south of each other but separated by the Tropic of Cancer.
